Love Spanks 2015 — “Gold Rush”

Love Spanks 2015 is here!

It went fast, but what a ride!Β The stories have been read! The comments have been made and are being tabulated by a very sophisticated and advanced system of algorithms and….something. I have no idea. All I know is that Love Spanks 2015 is officially over as far as commenting. Now we wait a bit to see who won what!

All the stories are down because we are having an anthology put together. More on that at a later date. So if you missed any of the fab offerings, they’ll be available in one volume at a ridiculously low price πŸ™‚Spanks-Lovespanks-2015-wnames-200x300

Thanks again for reading and commenting and being your awesome selves! I was touched by all your kind words and encouragement about the setting and characters in Gold Rush. I’m seriously considering more with Pen and Rowena. I have a few things on my plate right now, but their story may be too compelling to ignore for long πŸ™‚

Oh I love these characters and would love to hear more about them… it would be nice to read about the build up from the day they met up until this point and then of course after would be great too…

  2. Michelle Stevens says:

These are very interesting characters. I agree with Jay that seeing some of the buildup would be great.

  3. Nina says:

Hi Cathy, Pen and Rowena are a lovely couple. Now that they have found each other, this could be pretty exciting. Thank you for the story!

  4. I want more! Love your sense of place. That frontier, independent woman thing is so sexy to read (and write–I had fun writing a lesbian cowboy story some years ago). I’m all for more about their first meeting, but more sex is…always a good decision. πŸ˜‰

  5. Sara Daniel says:

This is story was great. I’ve never read a female gold mining story before. Very cool.

  7. Cathy, I’m always surprised to see naughtiness in your writing. Is it my influence? πŸ™‚

I like Sara’s comment about a female gold miner. I didn’t even think of that when I read your story, but she’s right. It is unusual, and I love it!

Thank you for joining Love Spanks again. Here’s to making F/F great!

  8. Raye says:

a really great tale! the period is prevalent and frames the story perfectly!

  9. SH says:

I loved these characters and the premise of the story is great! I have never heard of a female gold miner. It makes me wonder if women, in that time period, ever tried to be one. Interesting! Thank you!

Loved the slow burn. It makes the kiss at the end super sweet πŸ™‚

  12. Cathy Pegau says:

Thanks for all the comments so far, folks! I appreciate your kind words πŸ™‚

I’m not sure of the percentage of female miners, but they were there. Often it was wives, though I’d imagine at least a few were single women. Now I want to see if I can find statistics πŸ˜‰

  13. Tammi J says:

    Love historical fiction. Great story.

  14. steve says:

I think pen and Rowena have a good future ahead of them. i’m sure it wont be easy at first but they are off to a good start

  15. Marybeth says:

I loved this. I agree with Jay, I would love to read about their story. Let us know if you decide to write it. I would love to read it!

  16. pao says:

Female gold miner? Now that’s interesting! I wonder what inspired you to write characters in this era and with this occupation? I think the characters are interesting and I’d want to know more about their history leading up to this point in this story. Thank you for sharing your story πŸ™‚

    • Cathy Pegau says:

Pao, I did some research on Alaska and Canada from the time of the gold rush in the Yukon and became enamored with the era. The mystery series I have written is set here, but in 1919. The Last Frontier has been an interesting place to set all sorts of stories.

I might do more with Pen and Rowena. We’ll see πŸ˜‰

  17. Very hot scene, perfect to warm up Alaska. πŸ™‚

  18. What a sweet and romantic story. I love how the storm gave them a chance to be together.

  19. Renee says:

what an interesting take on this era in history. Enjoyed this story. Loved that both the assayer and the miner were women. thanks R

  20. Joelle Casteel says:

this is way intriguing, Cathy- a funny for you, I managed to get mixed up and started to read 2014 Love Spanks, it was on your page that I figured out what I was doing :D. I do love Pen and Rowenna; it’d be interesting to see them more. Considering that this is historical, my first thoughts go to time period issues like- how are two women on their own? How could they maybe be together longer? Amb VIP A

    • Cathy Pegau says:

Glad you got straightened out, Joelle πŸ™‚ Women came up north with their husbands, sure, but a few brave souls headed out on their own. More than we know about, but I’ve read a few accounts of these ladies and was inspired πŸ™‚

      • Joelle Casteel says:

That’s always wonderful to find that history that’s spoken to less. Sadly, I don’t remember too much in Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the US”- that’s one of my favorite non-standard history texts.

  21. Lisa says:

I really liked the characters in the story, I hope that you write more about them sometime..
    This was a good read..

  22. Mary M. says:

Very interesting characters, would love to see more of their story including their backstory. I love stories set in Alaska. It brought to mind the episode of Northern Exposure where it is revealed that the town of Cicely, Alaska was founded by Roslyn and Cicely.

I loved the build up to the erotic scene. I would love to know more about them. I like reading about Alaska in the early days and the gold rush.

  24. Laurel Lasky says:

i loved the slow buildup to the erotic romance. The history of gold rush days was not limited to California but included Alaska. I love this time period and would like to know more about the two women and how they met. You don’t often read about single woman in that time period.

  25. thelongbean says:

love the alaska scenario with the storm being the start of the fun.

  26. Tina s. says:

I enjoyed the story very much. Sometimes storms are a good thing

  27. Joanne Best says:

Oh wow! I really loved this story and I’m with everyone else wanting more of Pen and Rowena. I love reading about Alaska but even more so when it’s from the women’s point of view. I also loved the storm being the push for Pen to see the “writing on the wall”.
    Can’t wait for more! <3

  28. Kyra says:

Hello. I must say that I have never been interested in stories about mining…..however your excerpt may have changed me. I really enjoyed it. I may have to look up other romances that are similar. VIP

  31. I love that Pen and Rowena found each other in this male dominated time and industry. The gold rush brought them both up there, but it was the storm that brought them together for a different kind of rush. A wonderful story! πŸ™‚

  32. Cat says:

Would love to hear more about these characters and the challenges they face in a historical setting. Gotta tell ya…that scene was HOT! πŸ˜‰

The chemistry and passion of the characters really jumped from the pages. I enjoyed your short story.

  34. chickie says:

That is truly the last setting I expected to see! It works even though so against the grain of the times.

i liked how it was a period piece and a time/occupation I have not encountered.
